Client Testimonials

Effingham Road Client:

"My wife and I bought a Victorian semi-detached house near St Andrew’s Park in Bristol that hadn’t been updated much in the last 50 years. On top of our plans for a hip-to-gable dormer loft conversion, side and rear extensions, the house required complete refurbishment, so it was a big job. Lizzie was recommended by a friend. We loved her portfolio and have really enjoyed collaborating with her to realise our aspirations for our home.

During the design phase, Lizzie worked with our good ideas and steered us away from less good ones, to come up with a broad range of excellent designs and layouts to choose from. Lizzie’s design for our kitchen is truly exceptional – it’s such an amazing space to live in and we still pinch ourselves whenever we walk in.  But it’s not just her aesthetic and designs skill that Lizzie brings to a project. Her attention to detail, knowledge of materials, wealth of ideas, support and communication skills are all equally excellent.

Lizzie successfully guided us through the planning process and helped us find a builder, and acted as contract administrator for the project, evaluating the builder’s invoices throughout the year-long build.

Being an old house, the build wasn’t always straightforward, but Lizzie’s demeanour in site meetings was always calm and constructive, helping us and the builders to resolve any problems, and the result is a home that has surpassed all our expectations.

Her design skills are matched by her people skills. A real pleasure to work with from beginning to end. We couldn’t be happier and can’t recommend her enough."

Llwynderw Road Client:

"When we started our search for an architect, we wanted to find someone who would come up with something that we could never dream up. It took weeks of trawling the internet to find Lizzie, but as soon as I saw her Asymmetric Extension project, I was hooked, and after reading the reviews of past clients, and seeing all their projects, I got in touch.

We had lots of ideas of how we would use the space, but no idea how construction actually works, so on her first visit to our house, Lizzie kindly explained that the wall we’d thought to knock down would make our first floor fall down. Thankfully, she came up with several much better options which helped us think through our space and whittle down what we actually wanted. We agreed on a plan which far exceeded what we thought was possible for our house.

Lizzie supported us through all the stages which followed, explaining the world of structural engineers, planning applications, and party wall agreements as we went. We were thrilled to gain planning permission and look forward to realising the plans."

Mortimer Road Client:

"Myself and my Husband reached out to EJ Studio in 2020 with a specific vision for our home in Bristol. Lizzie came up with a design that completely matched our vision and the feeling we wanted to flow throughout the home.

The attention to detail that Lizzie and her team have is what makes the difference. Not just in the design but in their approach to working with clients, whether that is communication, support and being attentive to all possibilities and downfalls.

Working with EJ Studio allowed us to have the most beautiful space but a space that worked in every way as a functional home. This is the key difference between design and good design.

We cannot recommend Lizzie and her team at EJ Studio enough. We thank you so, so much for making our vision and ultimately our dream home come true!"

Raegar View Client:

"We got in contact with Lizzie after I encountered a number of problems with a new property I purchased; the project, which involved turning the house into a modern family home, had become much larger than I had anticipated. Lizzie took the time to do a full site visit and talked me through my options, giving some great advice as to how I could get the most out of the renovation and new layout of the property.

Lizzie’s vision of how the house could be redesigned and reconfigured far exceeded our expectations and we are extremely grateful for all of her input and advice as we now have the perfect family home. A huge thank you to Lizzie and her team at EJ Studio for all their support, from the very beginning to the end of our build."

Kensington Park Road Client:

"I was extremely lucky to have found Lizzie to work as the architect on my single storey extension. Lizzie immediately understood what I was hoping to achieve. I knew what I wanted but had difficulty visualising how that could be achieved.

Lizzie worked quickly to produce very detailed drawings which proved so useful in communicating the plan and the design to the builder and the various other tradesmen. She has a strong eye for detail, an excellent eye for colour and was very good at suggesting effective little design tweaks which added a playful and fun element into the look and feel of the space.

Lizzie transformed the brief into a very effective design which delivered everything I was hoping to achieve. The outcome is a beautiful, calm, light and relaxing multifunctional kitchen dining and living space, with glazed doors extending out into the garden. It has been a real pleasure to work with Lizzie and I would recommend her very highly."

The Old Pottery Client:

"My project was a compact, sustainable, 2 bedroom new-build dwelling within a conservation area and sensitive heritage location. I purchased an old commercial unit without planning. Having reached out to several architects, I decided to instruct EJ Studio; their presentation, vision and attention to detail far outshone the competitors I approached.

EJ Studio then set about designing the property, attained Change of Use and Planning Permission first time round, produced a full, coordinated construction set of information, helped in setting-up the project with a builder, and provided on-going advice and support throughout the duration of the build.

Lizzie is clearly passionate about Architecture and Interior Design, offering design ideas, material/product options and solutions to problems along the way, whilst also listening carefully to what I wanted for the project and taking this on board. An incredible eye for detail, I highly recommend EJ Studio."

1960's Terrace House Renovation Clients:

"We really enjoyed working with Lizzie; from start to finish the experience was excellent.  She took the time to really understand what we wanted out of the space. Armed with not the easiest brief – we really need the space to work hard to achieve everything we wanted – Lizzie gave us a range of fantastic options on beautiful drawings. She managed to incorporate everything we wanted, whilst suggesting some great ideas that have become real features in our home. The whole process was really collaborative, from the architectural design, to how much involvement we wanted on interiors and finishes. Lizzie was always happy to help, and everything was very honest with regards to fees and the likely cost of various build options. We were repeatedly told by our suppliers that we had the best set of architect drawings and plans that they had worked from. We have already recommended Lizzie to several friends as we were so impressed with the work!"

Parkfields Clients:

"It was an absolute pleasure to work with Lizzie on our house extension and refurbishment. She not only transformed the space, but also included so many intricate design details to create our dream home. The perfect combination of creativity and practicality!"

Asymmetric Extension Clients:

"Our requirement was a bit unusual as we needed to fit a new structure onto the rear of the house without compromising existing windows, and to create a novel and dramatic structure with ‘wow’ factor whilst transforming the overall look of the rear elevation.  Where two previous architects had failed to find a solution that we liked, Lizzie took us through a layered process that ultimately delivered an exciting and unique solution. Through this, she developed a good understanding of what we were trying to achieve and we are delighted with the resulting scheme.

Lizzie provided an excellent drawings pack that our builders rate as the best they have seen, and was highly effective at working through detail with us and the builders and key suppliers to ensure no issues or surprises as the build progressed. Although the project is still work in progress, we are very confident that the final result will meet and exceed expectations."

Warehouse Home:

"I was immediately struck by Lizzie's professionalism and her passion for architecture and design. She has fast become a valuable member of the Warehouse Home interior design studio. Lizzie is receptive to the client's vision and requirements, as well as input and feedback from the wider Warehouse Home team. She always strives to improve upon the initial idea to exceed the original ambition for the project while adhering to timelines and budgets."

Horley Road Clients:

"Our loft conversion was the first major change we made to our house. We needed an architect who could understand exactly what we wanted, work with us and our desire to use sustainable materials, guide us through the complexities of building regulations and produce a design that we were happy with and excited by. Lizzie rose to this challenge wonderfully.

She was attentive and understanding of our needs throughout, while remaining professional and producing a design of real quality and detail. Her fees represent great value for money, given the high level of personal service. We cannot reccomend her highly enough and look forward to working with her again in the future."
